Sun or Ascendant in Aquarius with Ray 1

.

Sun Aquarius (or Ascendant Aquarius), R1P (or R1S)
Plus Constellationally Transmitted R5

A moderate mutual reinforcement of ray and astrological energies emerges due to the transmission of the first ray through the first ray components of Uranus and Saturn—respectively the exoteric ruler of Aquarius, and a planet {Saturn}which has been considered the co-ruler of Aquarius, and is certainly the ruler of the first decanate.

The operative category of reinforcement would be Mild to Moderate by Rulership. Uranus is the most familiar ruler of Aquarius {the orthodox/exoteric ruler} but the first ray is transmitted through the monadic aspect, and thus is not easily accessed by those Aquarians who respond most immediately to Uranus {anyone under the category of initiate of the third degree}.

The degree of reinforcement may, however, be increased by the associations of Aquarius with the Great Bear and hence with the first ray. We are told: “Aquarius—expresses the universal consciousness of the Great Bear”. {EA 349}    In the Triangle, Great Bear - Sirius - Pleiades; it is the Great Bear that corresponds to the energy of the first ray.

Another reinforcement affecting initiates most, could come through both Uranus and Vulcan—both with their strong first ray components—especially Vulcan. Uranus and Vulcan {with Neptune} are veiled hierarchical rulers of Aquarius. From the decanate perspective, Saturn, transmitting the first ray, is the ruler of the first decanate {in esoteric order} and the third {in exoteric order}.

Selfish, Self-Centered or Self-Serving Human Being

Selfish, Self-Centered or Self-Serving Human Being

i.     The rebelliousness and anti-historical irreverence of the self-absorbed Aquarius person combines with the self-confident arrogance induced within the insufficiently spiritualized personality by the first ray. (These undesirable qualities would be in the nature of a relapse or reversion to a formerly bound condition, as it is not possible to have a first or second ray personality unless one is at least an aspirant. The first or second ray may, however, enter the personality by other lines of influence.)

ii.    Anarchist. Overthrowing all authority other than one’s own.

iii.    Trespassing. Breaking established boundaries. Breaking laws.

iv.     Superficial change, without addressing the psychology of those changed.

v.    Disrespect for the individual

vi.     Nervy. Impersonal in a jarring way. Uranian, upsetting.

xi.     Heartless revolutionary.

2.      Transmits principally R7, R2 and R4 (plus R1, R6, R7) through its veiled and unveiled planetary rulers

2.      R1

3.      Colors: turquoise (given by D.K.) and possibly (on a hypothetical color-scale incrementally related to the chromatic musical scale) indigo, indigo violet, or violet. (A color-chromatic scale has fourteen steps and a musical chromatic scale only twelve—hence the discrepancies and alternatives. The shading of decanates may offer a partial solution.)

Discover Potentials to be Derived from
Energetic Similarities Between Aquarius and R1

Utilize these similarities to further understand how these two energies may combine with or reinforce each other (for better of for worse) when they are found within the same energy system.

A.    United Through Uranus: The major first ray planet (from the monadic angle {cf. EP I 420}) is Uranus. Of course, Uranus is the usual ruler of Aquarius, thus relating Aquarius and the first ray.

B.     Related to the Energy of the Great Bear: Aquarius is associated with the Great Bear, which, as a whole, distributes the energy of the first ray. (cf. TCF 145-146) “Aquarius—expresses the universal consciousness of the Great Bear”. (EA 349)

C.     Associated with the Atmic Plane: Aquarius has an atmic association—Universal Mind, if we begin by assigning Aries to the logoic plane, Pisces to the monadic, etc. The atmic plane is a point of tension in which both the first and the third rays are focalized.

D.     Related to Electric Fire: The fire of the first ray is electric fire. Uranus, the ultimate first ray planet is the home of “fire electric”. Aquarius (the prototype of Uranus) must, therefore, have much to do with “fire electric”. Thus, in yet another way, are the first ray and Aquarius related.

E.     Life—Electric and Vitalizing: As a constellation, Aquarius is associated with the life aspect of divinity. From one perspective. It is an electric and vitalizing sign. This relates it to the first ray which is similarly focussed.

F.    Connected to the Etheric Body: Both Aquarius and the first ray (as it is distributed through Vulcan veiled by the Moon) are connected with the etheric body. “The etheric vehicle from the circulatory angle, is governed by the Moon, as it veils Vulcan.” (EH 143)

G.     Radiation: Both Aquarius (especially via Uranus) and the first ray are related to the factor of radiation. Uranus is one of the planets ruling what we call “atomic energy”. The first ray rules the nucleus of any atom (physical, human, planetary or solar) and the liberating radiation which emanates from that nucleus.

H.     Disruption and Destruction: Both energies share the tendency to produce disruption and destruction. Aquarius destroys in order to reform and restructure. The first ray destroys (more generally) to clear the ground so that there may be a new construction.

I.     “Progress Onward”: The motion of the first ray is “driving forward through space or forward progression” (TCF 41) and “progress onward”. (TCF 1059) Aquarius (with Sagittarius) is perhaps the most future-oriented sign, and can certainly be related to the first ray, Uranian motion of “progress onward”.

J.      Related to the Process at the Third Initiation and Beyond: At the third initiation, the initiate comes into conscious contact with the monad (ruled archetypally by the first ray). Monadic radiation begins to mean something real and specific to him. Aquarius has certain first ray qualities, expressed through Uranus but also originating in the Aquarian connection to the Great Bear—a great first ray Source when considered as a constellation. There is something about the energy of Aquarius which embraces the idea of monadic radiation, or monadic pervasion, or monadic electricity.

It is also simply stated that Aquarius is associated with the third initiation. “In Aquarius—In this sign, the long effort of the soul is consummated and concludes the experience of the disciple upon the Fixed Cross. The man then takes the third initiation and becomes free from personality control, taking the next two initiations upon the Cardinal Cross”. (EA 144)

K.     Possible Connection to the Second Initiation: Aquarius is easily understood as related to the second initiation where a great cleansing or purification occurs. The myth of Hercules in Aquarius—how he ingeniously cleansed the Augean Stables of the accumulated filth of the ages, illustrates the applicability of Aquarius to the second degree. Further, at this degree, the disciple/initiate comes into relation with the will in a new way. A blow is struck at his innate selfishness, and the higher will redirects desire.
