9. Creative Hierarchy number IX (manifested), the

|
9.
Creative Hierarchy number VI (manifested). The Lunar Lords,

|
10.
Associated with the body-transmuting, appetite-regulating, first
initiation; the purifying, emotion-transforming, desire-subduing
second initiation; and the mind-transfiguring, personality-conquering
third initiation. Scorpio prepares “the disciple for the first, second and third initiations. After the
third initiation, its peculiar testing potency is no longer
felt.” (EA 199) Even so, the fourth degree is
ruled by the fourth ray, and bring buddhi powerfully
into the life, as does fourth-ray Scorpio, powerfully
resonant to the buddhic plane.
|
|
10.
Associated with the instinct-directing, ‘soul-ward’ orienting,
‘form-abstractive’ first initiation; with the fierily-baptizing,
ideal-containing, de-glamorizing, clear-eyed second initiation,
and with the direction-choosing, outward-bound, adventuring,
nirvanic sixth initiation—the initiation of Decision.
|
11. Scorpio
is correlated principally to the three sub-diaphragmatic centers,
sub-ruled by Mars and Pluto: to the attracting and repelling,
desiring, aspiring, solar plexus center; to the instinctually
insistent, sexually-unitive sacral center; to the system-empowering,
hindrance-destroying, will-impelling center at the base
of the spine. Because the ajna center is ruled
by fourth ray Mercury (from a point in time near the third initiation
and following), and because Mercury is the hierarchical ruler
of fourth ray Scorpio, Scorpio can be reasonably associated
as an influence upon the drama of contrasting polarities staged
in relation to the ajna center. |
|
11. Sagittarius
can be reasonably associated with the insistently driving, aspiring,
fiery solar plexus center; with the instinctively-hunting,
passion-driven sacral center, and even with the center
at the base of the spine, where the latent fire (Mars)
awaits its rising; Earth (with its first ray Monad and a symbol
identical to the fourfold structure of the base center) is the
esoteric ruler of Sagittarius, connecting it to that lowest
center. The personality-directing, clear-seeing, force controlling
ajna center should also be influenced strongly by Sagittarius,
at a relatively high point in the evolutionary process.
|
12. The zodiacal signs influence the Monad of every
human being (EA 411, 637, TCF 1191); the influence from
Scorpio is potent indeed, because the entire fourth manifested
Creative Hierarchy (the Hierarchy of Human Monads) is ruled
by Scorpio. Scorpio guarantees that the Monad will not remain
trapped in immersion, but will conquer its apparent captor
(lower matter), and, thus, achieve its proper function in relation
to the buddhic plane as the mediating kingdom between the three
higher and three lower manifested Creative Hierarchies. |
|
12. The zodiacal signs influence the Monad of every
human being (EA 411, 637, TCF 1191); the influence from
Sagittarius guides the Monad on its descent into material immersion,
and, again, through an inherently flawless sense of direction,
guides the Monad upon its path of return. Sagittarius contributes
to the conviction of “monadic destiny”, and destination.
|
13.
In relation to the Triad—Scorpio (the sign in which that great
exemplar of the first ray, Hercules, achieved his triumph) must
be understood as having an influence upon the first aspect
of the Triad—atma, the spiritual will. Scorpio (esoterically
during this world period) may well transmit the first
ray. In Scorpio, the threefold Illusion is conquered, and, buddhi
(the intuition) is the conqueror. Buddhi rules upon
the fourth plane, and Scorpio transmits the fourth
ray constellationally. Scorpio seems less related to higher
manas, though it is a triple sign.
|
|
13. Within the Triad—Sagittarius is focused in both
buddhi and higher manas—the abstract mind. Sagittarius
transmits the fourth ray, which relates to the fourth, or buddhic,
plane and the principle of buddhi. Sagittarius
is one of the intuitive signs. (EA 177) In Sagittarius,
intuition (fourth ray, second principle) governs aspiration
(sixth ray—which Sagittarius also transmits) (cf. EA 178) Sagittarius
is at once philosophical (utilizing the abstract mind) and intuitive.
The blend of buddhi and higher manas may be called
“universal or spiritual mind” which Sagittarius expresses in
relation to Mercury. (EA 369) |
14.
In relation to the Solar Angel, and the soul-consciousness (and
causal body) through which it expresses—Scorpio can be understood
as the will of the Solar Angel to drastically purify
its personality, when that personality has, at length, demonstrated
its readiness for the process. Under Virgo, the personality
has been consistently improved; under Scorpio, the Solar Angel
(“a most efficient surgeon”—(DINA
I 232)) reveals all obstruction to soul-infusion, and
(with the help of its now desperate personality) sees to the
removal of such obstruction.
|
|
14. In relation to the Solar Angel, and the soul-consciousness
(and causal body) through which it expresses—Sagittarius can
be seen as the will of the Solar Angel to inspire its personality
to a state of aspiration through the presentation of an elevating
vision of future spiritual possibilities. As well, when the
personality errs (as oft it does), Sagittarius represents the
‘guiding beam of light’ which offers a secure sense of spiritual
direction—directing, at length, to the mountain of initiation.
|
15.
Within the Personality — Scorpio can be identified with
the penetrative and controlling (EA
180) processes of the lower mental nature; with the intensely
purgative and emotionally transformational processes
of the astral nature; with the general power of the etheric
nature (though emotional/mental battles can be devitalizing);
and with the fortitude, hardiness and staying-power
of the dense physical nature. (The
vehicular focus and its degree of prominence, depends upon the
stage of evolutionary development.)
|
|
15. Within the Personality — Sagittarius can be identified
with the directing, thought-projecting power of
the lower mental nature and its eventual responsiveness to
intuitive guidance; with the passional and eventual
aspirational processes of the astral nature; with the
vibrancy and buoyancy of the etheric nature; and
with the general tendency to energetic activity
of the dense physical nature. Sagittarius is particularly associated
with the integrated, one-pointed, disciplic personality.(The vehicular focus and its degree of prominence, depends
upon the stage of evolutionary development.) |
16. Stage of Meditative Consciousness: Illumination.
“Scorpio—Illumination—The soul triumphs. Experience in Taurus
consummated. Astral glamour dissipated. Soul light pours in.
The Path of Discipleship. The Disciple.” (EA 228-229)

1.
Expressive of the first aspect as it seeks to transmute
the third aspect so that the second aspect may emerge—“triumphant”.
|
|
1.
Expressive of the first and third aspects of divinity. These processes
lead to the full expression (on the “mountain top” of the second
aspect)
|
2.
Cosmically, associated primarily with Sirius. “Scorpio is under the influence or inflowing energy of Sirius. This is the
great star of initiation because our Hierarchy (an expression
of the second aspect of divinity) is under the supervision or
spiritual magnetic control of the Hierarchy of Sirius.” (EA 197)
Initiation (Sirius) is transformation (Scorpio) “Scorpio is the great constellation which influences
the turning point both in the life of humanity and the life of
the individual human being. For the first time in the history
of both mankind and disciples the energy of Sirius, pouring into
the seven groups which form our planetary Hierarchy evokes a response.”
(EA 198) “We come now to another triangle, the activity of which
produces the manifestation of Hierarchy—the intermediary between
Shamballa and Humanity: Scorpio, Sirius and Mars.”(EA 483)
|
|
2.
Definite cosmic association with the Pleiades and probably with
the Little Bear (particularly Polaris—the Pole Star). “Pleiades—Gemini/Sagittarius—Mercury” (EA 50) “Gemini—Sagittarius—Mercury
(which are an expression of the Pleiades) enable the Probationary
Disciple to pass on to the Path of Accepted Discipleship.” “…The
Pointers; these point to the Pole star which is at this time a
major ‘star of direction’.” (EA 195) It should be noted that Sagittarius
is a major sign of direction. If Leo and Aries rule
the two Pointers, then the third fire sign, Sagittarius, should
be connected with Polaris. Also, Sirius, Gemini and Sagittarius
probably formed a triangle at the time of man’s individualization.
(cf. EA 355) Sagittarius and Betelgeuse are related to the third
cosmic path: “Source— Betelgeuse, via the sign Sagittarius.” (EA
1257)

1.
Scorpio transmits the fourth ray constellationally.
|
|
1.
Sagittarius transmits the fourth ray constellationally.
Further, Sagittarius is the fourth sign of the zodiac
upon the clockwise wheel, numbering from Pisces. (cf. also EA 357) Earth has a close relationship to the fourth ray through its
planetary order (fourth from the Sun if Vulcan is counted) and
its symbol. (the fourfold, even-armed cross within a circle).
Mars, the “God of War” must be related to the lower aspect
of the fourth ray—that which produces the conflict which
precedes harmony.
|
2.
Scorpio, the sign in which first ray Hercules achieved
his triumphs, and (with Taurus and Pisces) one of three cosmic
decanates, may well transmit the first ray in a subtle
way—perhaps to appear more definitively in a future world period
when transmitted ray emphasis changes (cf. EA 204, 487).
|
|
2.
Earth, the esoteric ruler of Sagittarius, transmits the first
ray monadically. (EA 619) Mars (and its School) are expressive of the first
ray. (TCF 1179)
|
3.
Scorpio is the eighth sign on the reversed wheel, and is,
thus, related to Mercury—the “Messenger at the eighth gate.” (EA
298)
|
|
3.
Although Mercury is in detriment in Gemini, this planet has an
important connection to the Sagittarian Archer. “He
has, figuratively speaking, to dismount constantly from his white
horse (the developed and purified personality) and find where
the arrows of intuitional aspiration will take him; he travels
upon the "wings of the soul" (note the relationship
to the winged feet of Mercury, the messenger of the Gods) and
becomes, in his own personality, himself the winged God:..” .
(EA 181)
|
4.
Scorpio is the sixth sign on the clockwise wheel, and hence
has numerical affinity with the sixth ray.
|
|
4.
Sagittarius transmits the sixth ray constellationally—with
especial strength. Numbering the signs by polarities (Aries-Libra,
Taurus-Scorpio, etc.), Sagittarius is the sixth in order, giving
it numerical affinity with the sixth ray. Jupiter, the
exoteric ruler, has possible sixth ray associations through
enthusiasm and the “worship” aspect of ritual Mars, the hierarchical
ruler, transmits the sixth ray.
|
5.
Scorpio is the fifth sign of the zodiac on the clockwise
wheel (IF one begins counting with Pisces). This brings to Scorpio,
as a sign, a numerical resonance with the fifth ray.
|
|
5.
Sagittarius transmits the fifth ray constellationally.
Further, Sagittarius is the fifth sign on the clock-wise
wheel and hence, has numerical affinity with the fifth
ray. Mars, the hierarchical ruler, has strong fifth ray
relations, through its orange color and its connection to science
and the five senses.
|
6.
Scorpio is the fourth sign of the zodiac on the reversed
wheel, if the counting proceeds by polarities (Aries-Libra, Taurus-Scorpio,
Gemini-etc.). This strengthens Scorpio’s resonance with the fourth
ray.
|
|
6.
See #1 above.
|
7.
Mars is the exoteric and esoteric ruler of Scorpio, and transmits
the sixth ray.
|
|
7.
See #4 above.
|
8.
The Planetary School on Mars trains those “whose work is along
the lines of the destroyer” and, therefore, can be seen as transmitting
the first ray.
|
|
8.
See #2 above.
|
9.
Mars “rules science” (EA 215), hence has important fifth
ray associations.
|
|
9.
See #5 above.
|
10.
Mars (with Saturn and the Earth) participates in the personality
of a great third ray Entity and, therefore, can be seen,
however indirectly, as expressing the third ray.
|
|
10.
Sagittarius is the ninth sign of the zodiac on the reversed
wheel. Nine is the number of the number three. The third ray has a 900 year cycle.
(EPI 348-349). The Earth,
esoteric ruler of Sagittarius, transmits the third ray
as its personality ray. Mars serves as the astral body to a third
ray Entity.
|
11.
Pluto is the special ruler of Scorpio and transmits the
first ray.
|
|
11.
See #2 above.
|
12.
Pluto assists scientific research, thus, a subtle ray of Pluto,
special ruler of Scorpio, may well be the fifth, thus relating
it to its scientific “Alter Ego” Mars.
|
|
12.
See #5 above.
|
13.
A subtle ray force expressing through Pluto may well be the third,
(stealth and stratagems).
|
|
13.
See #10 above.
|
14.
Pluto has a connection to the sixth ray via is association
with the solar plexus. (EA 78)
|
|
14.
See #4 above.
|
15.
Mercury, the hierarchical ruler of Scorpio, also transmits the
fourth ray.
|
|
15.
See #1 above.
|
16.
Mercury is expressive of the third ray and may well transmit
this ray through its personality (cf. EA 280)
|
|
16.
See #10 above.
|
17.
Mercury (manas) is closely associated with the fifth ray.
|
|
17.
See #5 above.
|
18.
Uranus is exalted in Scorpio and transmits the seventh ray.
|
|
18.
Jupiter, the exoteric ruler, transmits the seventh ray
through “ritualistic worship” (EA 648, 660)
|
19.
Uranus transmits the first ray monadically, as it is the
“home of fire electric.” (TCF 1154)
|
|
19.
See #2 above.
|
20.
Uranus participates in the expression of a great second
ray Entity (EPII 99), and helps to bring the second ray
to Earth from Sirius and Pisces (EA 432)
|
|
20.
Jupiter, the exoteric ruler of Sagittarius, transmits the second
ray, most probably through its soul. Earth, the esoteric ruler
of Sagittarius, transmits the second ray through its second
ray soul (EA 619).
|
21.
Uranus rules “exoteric science” and, hence, is related to the
fifth ray.
|
|
21.
See #5 above.

11.
Strong eventual connection to the higher mind, and then, to

|
12.
Powerful use of the mind is two ways: analytic/rational and
illumining: “Scorpio carries the test right down into the physical
plane life, and then, when it is faced and handled there, the
life of the man is carried up into heaven, and the problem which
the test involved is solved by the use of the reasoning mind.”
(EA 204) “In Scorpio the mind is released into full governing
activity. This release takes place in two stages: Stage 1—Wherein
the intellect becomes dominant and powerful and controls eventually
the emotional nature. Stage 2— Wherein the intellect is illumined
by the light of the soul. (EA 179-180)
|
|
12.
The intuition which follows this successful use of the mind.
“It [Sagittarius] is also the sign of intuitive perception and, on
the ordinary way of progression around the zodiac, it comes
after the normally drastic experience of the man in Scorpio;
this is usually of such a nature that the instinct to self-preservation
has been aroused to such an extent that in the dire need of
the man (not the disciple, at this time) a call to the soul
has gone forth and has evoked response.” (EA 227)

the purificatory waters of testing and trials are applied. This
takes place upon the Fixed Cross and their effect is drastic
in the extreme.” (EA 287)
|
|
18.
A balanced point of view. “It
is interesting to note that no planet is exalted in Sagittarius
and that no planet falls in this sign. Only one thing happens
and that is that the power of Mercury is greatly lessened. For
this reason Sagittarius is esoterically regarded as a sign of
balance and of no extremes; there is no great fall and no exaltation.
This fact indicates that the disciple has to walk an even way
between the pairs of opposites, uninfluenced by either the ‘power
of exaltation or the potency of that which falls.’ Neither the
valley nor the heights produces any demonstrable effect.” (EA
191)

which could no longer control Him.” (EA 566)

trod the Path of the Saviour, leading to the liberation of humanity.”

signs are powerful in the drama of the reorientation of the human
being. They act as a unit, Scorpio promoting the battle and Sagittarius
redirecting the energy.
They
are both active at the time of the second initiation giving via
Scorpio the power to overcome negativity and via Sagittarius, the
power to redirect the emotional life with firm one-pointed commitment.
Both
signs are extremely active in the great drama of good and evil.
Evil is confronted in Scorpio and the good is ardently followed
in Sagittarius.
There
is, therefore, a natural intensity associated with both signs. This
intensity is expressed through Mars, the orthodox and esoteric ruler
of Scorpio and the hierarchical ruler of Sagittarius.
Both
signs are strongly related to the astral plane through Mars and
through the sixth Ray and both are involved in the drama of the
lunar life, for Sagittarius rules as a whole the Lunar lords and
in Scorpio, the moon is said to fall which indicates especially
a focus on the astral plane and the overcoming of the astral elemental
thought the other elementals, physical and mental are also included
within the contest.
So
these two signs participate in the defeat and reorientation of the
lunar elementals. They are signs which discover the depth of evil
and lift man into a higher state so that his life may become solarized.
In fact, we see this symbolized by the fact that the Sun is the
ruler of the third and final decanate of Sagittarius.
Both of these
signs are particularly associated with the second initiation where
the astral body is controlled and mental polarization achieved.
Both signs
have a powerful focus upon the emotional plane and hence confer
intensity, but they share a strong mental focus as well for Mercury
is the hierarchical ruler of Scorpio and Sagittarius has long
been known for its thoughtful philosophic ways that puts all matters
into reasoned perspective.
So it can
be seen that these two signs together are active in changing emotional
polarization into mental polarization and they also have a strongly
intuitive focus for Scorpio is associated with the fourth Creative
Hierarchy and with the buddhic plane.
Its hierarchical
ruler, Mercury, indicates this intuitive focus and Sagittarius
is known by the Tibetan as one of the intuitive signs with the
reasoning faculties of Mercury in detriment in this sign.
As might be
expected, there is a strong solar plexus activation for both signs.
The warfare in Scorpio closely involving the solar plexus and
the aspirational life stimulated by Sagittarius equally doing
so.
The sacral
center is also involved strongly in both signs for Scorpio rules
sex and the overcoming of the sex impulse and Sagittarius as the
centaur in the early days of development indicates a strong sacral
focus in need of aspirational reorientation. This is the earthiness
of the Sagittarian sign for the processes of form creation are ruled
at the sacral center and the Earth, the esoteric ruler of Sagittarius,
is closely related to these processes of form creation and materialization.
With such
a strong lunar focus, we have what might be called the redemption
of the lunar elementals carried out through both of these signs.
Scorpio is always to be considered a sign of initiation just like
Capricorn, but particularly at the second and fourth initiations.
Sagittarius
participates in this second initiation but at the third initiation,
the major themes are integration, science and direction and it
can be seen how two out of these three states are indicated by
Sagittarius, namely integration and direction.
So we see
from the initiating point of view how Sagittarius leads on from
Scorpio only again to be overtaken by Scorpio as the fourth initiation
is approached.
Therefore,
Scorpio and Sagittarius preside over the reorientation and elevation
of the human consciousness. (inaudible – mdr
please verify ) At that point of development
when the Lunar lords are most fiercely opposing such a reorientation
and elevation.
