1.   Esoteric Mantram: Warrior I am, and from the battle I emerge triumphant.   1.   Esoteric Mantram: Water of life am I, poured forth for thirsty men.

2.   Exoteric/Evolutionary Mantram: And the Word said: Let Maya flourish and deception rule.   2.   Exoteric/Evolutionary Mantram: And the Word said: Let desire in form be ruler.

3.   Quality of Light: The Light of Day   3.   Quality of Light: The Light that shines on Earth, across the sea.

4.   Element: Water Sign   4.   Element: Air Sign

5.   Fixed Cross   5.   Fixed Cross

6.   Transmits R4 constellationally. Possibly R1 is a subtle constellational transmission.

  6.   Transmits R5 constellationally. Secondary and subtle transmissions of R3 and R1 are possible.

7.   Secondarily, (assuredly, but not exclusively) Scorpio transmits R6, R1 and R4 through Mars, Pluto and Mercury—its three planetary rulers on three levels—exoteric, esoteric and hierarchical.

  7.   Secondarily, (assuredly, but not exclusively) Aquarius transmits R7, R2 and R4 (with R1, R6, and R7), through Uranus, Jupiter and the Moon, veiling Vulcan, Neptune and Uranus—all these are its planetary rulers on three levels—exoteric, esoteric and hierarchical.

8.   Color: crimson, dark red. Black is important.

  8.   Color: turquoise

9.   Creative Hierarchy number IX (manifested), the Human Hierarchy, the “Initiates”   9.   Creative Hierarchy number XII (manifested) and XII of the twelve. Elemental Lives; the Baskets of Nourishment; the Blinded Lives

10.   Associated with the body-transmuting, appetite-regulating, first initiation; the purifying, emotion-transforming, desire-subduing second initiation; and the mind-transfiguring, personality-conquering third initiation. Scorpio prepares “the disciple for the first, second and third initiations. After the third initiation, its peculiar testing potency is no longer felt.” (EA 199) Even so, the fourth degree is ruled by the fourth ray, and bring buddhi powerfully into the life, as does fourth-ray Scorpio, powerfully resonant to the buddhic plane.

  10.   Association with refuse-flushing, fire-cleansing, fellowship-inducing second initiation; the ego-negating, light-pervading, soul-inspiring third initiation; the personality-renouncing, life-energizing fourth initiation; and, conceivably, with the abundant life of the beneficently organizing fifth degree.

11.   Scorpio is correlated principally to the three sub-diaphragmatic centers, sub-ruled by Mars and Pluto: to the attracting and repelling, desiring, aspiring, solar plexus center; to the instinctually insistent, sexually-unitive sacral center; to the system-empowering, hindrance-destroying, will-impelling center at the base of the spine. Because the ajna center is ruled by fourth ray Mercury (from a point in time near the third initiation and following), and because Mercury is the hierarchical ruler of fourth ray Scorpio, Scorpio can be reasonably associated as an influence upon the drama of contrasting polarities staged in relation to the ajna center.

11.   Aquarius can be reasonably associated with the entire abundantly-radiating, synthetic crown center, and the united radiation of the chakra centers as a whole. When the ajna center responds to the universal mind, the envisioning of the archetypally-destined future appears. Aquarius transmits the third ray, and thus relates to the throat center (through ruling Saturn, Uranus and Vulcan as well). Aquarius, is esoterically ruled by Jupiter, the planet controlling the group-inclusive heart center. The evolving Aquarian is subject to many emotional highs and lows, thus connecting Aquarius to the solar plexus center. (EA 141-142) Also, through Uranus, with the form-creating sacral center which generates “waters of life” in a more material sense. As well, seventh-ray Uranus is numerically related to the seventh or basal center, bringing Aquarius into the relation.

12.   The zodiacal signs influence the Monad of every human being (EA 411, 637, TCF 1191); the influence from Scorpio is potent indeed, because the entire fourth manifested Creative Hierarchy (the Hierarchy of Human Monads) is ruled by Scorpio. Scorpio guarantees that the Monad will not remain trapped in immersion, but will conquer its apparent captor (lower matter), and, thus, achieve its proper function in relation to the buddhic plane as the mediating kingdom between the three higher and three lower manifested Creative Hierarchies.   12.   The zodiacal signs influence the Monad of every human being (EA 411, 637, TCF 1191); the influence from Aquarius governs the large monadic groups or ‘monadic ashrams’, which aggregations exist upon the monadic plane. The universal awareness of the Monad is inspired and enhanced by the Aquarian energy. The Monad is a ‘center of synthesis’ and a ‘center within synthesis’. The Aquarian energy stimulates the universality and synthetic awareness of the Monad.

13.   In relation to the Triad—Scorpio (the sign in which that great exemplar of the first ray, Hercules, achieved his triumph) must be understood as having an influence  upon the first aspect of the Triad—atma, the spiritual will. Scorpio (esoterically during this world period) may well transmit the first ray. In Scorpio, the threefold Illusion is conquered, and, buddhi (the intuition) is the conqueror. Buddhi rules upon the fourth plane, and Scorpio transmits the fourth ray constellationally. Scorpio seems less related to higher manas, though it is a triple sign.

  13.   Within the Triad—Aquarius is related principally to higher manas and to atma as both of them reflect, to differing degrees, the Universal Mind (EA 241, 322, 495). Aquarius transmits the third ray constellationally (EA 138), and has rulers or sub-rulers which do the same. Aquarius “expresses the universal consciousness of the Great Bear” linking it to atma, in yet another way. The energy of Aquarius, as well, stimulates and blends with buddhi, principally by inducing loving group-cohesion. The Tibetan speaks of “universal love of the truly developed Aquarian.” (EA 136) This is an expression of buddhi.

14.   In relation to the Solar Angel, and the soul-consciousness (and causal body) through which it expresses—Scorpio can be understood as the will of the Solar Angel to drastically purify its personality, when that personality has, at length, demonstrated its readiness for the process. Under Virgo, the personality has been consistently improved; under Scorpio, the Solar Angel (“a most efficient surgeon”—(DINA I 232)) reveals all obstruction to soul-infusion, and (with the help of its now desperate personality) sees to the removal of such obstruction.

  14.   In relation to the Solar Angel, and the soul-consciousness (and causal body) through which it expresses—Aquarius represents the dowering of the personality with all super-human, transcendental gifts which the Solar Angel may safely bestow. Aquarius represents the patient service of the Solar Angel to its long-developing personality, and the consequent elevation of the human soul from the human to the super-human state of the fifth kingdom—the Kingdom of Souls. Aquarius rules the generous distribution of beneficent Solar-Angelic radiation to (and through) its personality

15.   Within the Personality—Scorpio can be identified with the penetrative and controlling (EA 180) processes of the lower mental nature; with the intensely purgative and emotionally transformational processes of the astral nature; with the general power of the etheric nature (though emotional/mental battles can be devitalizing); and with the fortitude, hardiness and staying-power of the dense physical nature. (The vehicular focus and its degree of prominence, depends upon the stage of evolutionary development.)   15.   Within the Personality—Aquarius can be identified with the power to vitalize, unify and synthesize thought, which eventually develops within the lower mental nature; with the cleansing, drying, and eventual distributive radiation of the love-responsive astral nature; with the electric vitalization of the etheric nature; and, in general, with the nervous animation of the dense physical form. Aquarius “is eventually connected with the physical permanent atom.” (EA 302) (The vehicular focus and its degree of prominence, depends upon the stage of evolutionary development.)

16.   Stage of Meditative Consciousness: Illumination. “Scorpio—Illumination—The soul triumphs. Experience in Taurus consummated. Astral glamour dissipated. Soul light pours in. The Path of Discipleship. The Disciple.” (EA 228-229)   16.   Stage of Meditative Consciousness: Pervasion
17.   The Crisis of the Battlefield characterized by the quality of Conflict.   17.   The Choice of Method of Service

1.   Expressive of the first aspect as it seeks to transmute the third aspect so that the second aspect may emerge—“triumphant”.

  1.  Expressive of all three aspects of divinity, though the first aspect is latent at this time.

2.   Cosmically, associated primarily with Sirius. “Scorpio is under the influence or inflowing energy of Sirius. This is the great star of initiation because our Hierarchy (an expression of the second aspect of divinity) is under the supervision or spiritual magnetic control of the Hierarchy of Sirius.” (EA 197) Initiation (Sirius) is transformation (Scorpio) “Scorpio is the great constellation which influences the turning point both in the life of humanity and the life of the individual human being. For the first time in the history of both mankind and disciples the energy of Sirius, pouring into the seven groups which form our planetary Hierarchy evokes a response.” (EA 198) “We come now to another triangle, the activity of which produces the manifestation of Hierarchy—the intermediary between Shamballa and Humanity: Scorpio, Sirius and Mars.”(EA 483)

  2.   Strong cosmic association with the Pole Star, Alcyone, also an invisible constellation, and the Great Bear: “The influence which emanates from the Pole Star and which is such a potent factor in our solar system reaches our planet via the sign Aquarius.” (TCF 1263) “Aquarius, Alcyone and Humanity constitute a most interesting triangle of force. Alcyone is one of the seven Pleiades and is called the ‘star of the Individual’ and sometimes the ‘star of intelligence’.” (EA 200) “The source of energy to which they respond may be regarded as the Pole Star.  It should nevertheless be pointed out that this star serves only as a blind for a constellation which lies behind,—a constellation which exists only in etheric matter.  It is consequently ignored by astronomers, though its influence is exceedingly potent within our system.” (TCF 1262) Also, “Aquarius—expresses the universal consciousness of the Great Bear.” (EA 349)

3.   Three Constellations Connected with Scorpio: a) Serpens—the Serpent of Illusion; b) Ophiuchus—the Serpent Handler or Wrestler; c) Hercules—the Sun God/Hero (LOH 153-154)

  3.   Three Constellations Connected with Aquarius: a) Pisces Australes—the Southern Fish; b) Pegasus—the Winged Horse; c) Cygnus—The Swan (LOH 189-190)

1.   Uranus is exalted in Scorpio.

1.   Uranus is the exoteric ruler of Aquarius, and also one of the three veiled hierarchical rulers.

2.   The Moon falls in Scorpio.

  2.   The Moon is the hierarchical ruler of Aquarius.

Subtle Relationships Between Rays, Zodiacal and Planetary Energies

Subtle Relationships Between Rays,
Zodiacal and Planetary Energies

Scorpio
In Comparison With
Aquarius
1.   Scorpio transmits the fourth ray constellationally.

  1.   The Moon (hierarchical ruler) is the veiling transmitter of the fourth ray. Moon-veiled Vulcan is closely related to the fourth ray, the fourth kingdom, and the fourth initiation. Neptune ( a Moon-veiled hierarchical ruler) is associated with the fourth ray through its relationship to buddhi, and to the fourth , or buddhic, plane.

2.   Scorpio, the sign in which first ray Hercules achieved his triumphs, and (with Taurus and Pisces) one of three cosmic decanates, may well transmit the first ray in a subtle way—perhaps to appear more definitively in a future world period when transmitted ray emphasis changes (cf. EA 204, 487).

  2.   Aquarius, itself, may have implicate first ray associations. “Aquarius—expresses the universal consciousness of the Great Bear” (EA 349) The Great Bear (as a whole) transmits the first ray. (cf. TCF 146). Aquarius, is the tenth sign on the reversed wheel, numbering by polarities (Aries-Libra, Taurus-Scorpio, etc.) and thus has numerical resonance with the first ray. Uranus, the exoteric ruler,  transmits the first ray monadically.  (EPI 421) Saturn, a possible alternative ruler in Aquarius, transmits the first ray probably in its personality, but perhaps its soul. (EA 450)  Moon-veiled Vulcan and Uranus both transmit the first ray—the first as the monadic ray, the second, probably, as the soul ray.

3.   Scorpio is the sixth sign on the clockwise wheel, and hence has numerical affinity with the sixth ray.

  3.   Neptune (a Moon-veiled hierarchical ruler) transmits the sixth ray. Enthusiastic Jupiter has a probable connection to the sixth ray.

4.   Scorpio is the fifth sign of the zodiac on the clockwise wheel (IF one begins counting with Pisces). This brings to Scorpio, as a sign, a numerical resonance with the fifth ray.

  4.   Aquarius transmits the fifth ray constellationally. Uranus, the exoteric ruler, (and a veiled hierarchial rulers) can stand for “exoteric science” (EP 149) and, hence, has fifth ray associations. Saturn, a possible alternative ruler, is associated with the concrete mind and, hence, with the fifth principle. Vulcan, (a veiled hierarchical ruler) relates to the concretion and physical precipitation, as does the fifth ray.

5.   Scorpio is the fourth sign of the zodiac on the reversed wheel, if the counting proceeds by polarities (Aries-Libra, Taurus-Scorpio, Gemini-etc.). This strengthens Scorpio’s resonance with the fourth ray.

  5.   See #1 above.

6.   Mars is the exoteric and esoteric ruler of Scorpio, and transmits the sixth ray.

  6.   See # 3 above.

7.   The Planetary School on Mars trains those “whose work is along the lines of the destroyer” and, therefore, can be seen as transmitting the first ray.

  7.   See #2 above.

8.   Mars “rules science” (EA 215), hence has important fifth ray associations.

  8.   See #4 above.

9.   Mars (with Saturn and the Earth) participates in the personality of a great third ray Entity and, therefore, can be seen, however indirectly, as expressing the third ray.

  9.   “The third ray expresses itself powerfully through” Aquarius constellationally. (EA 138). Aquarius is also the third sign of the zodiac on the clock-wise wheel, therefore having numerical affinity with the third ray. Uranus transmits the third ray (probably through its personality) as does Saturn (considered an alternative ruler in this sign) through its Monad, and probably, also, its soul. The Moon-veiled Uranus also transmits the third ray.

10.   Pluto is the special ruler of Scorpio and transmits the first ray.

  10.   See #2 above.

11.   Pluto assists scientific research, thus, a subtle ray of Pluto, special ruler of Scorpio, may well be the fifth, thus relating it to its scientific “Alter Ego” Mars.

  11.   See #4 above.

12.   A subtle ray force expressing through Pluto may well be the third, (stealth and stratagems).

  12.   See #9 above.

13.   Pluto has a connection to the sixth ray via is association with the solar plexus. (EA 78)

  13.   See #3 above.

14.   Mercury, the hierarchical ruler of Scorpio, also transmits the fourth ray.

  14.   See #1 above.

15.   Mercury is expressive of the third ray and may well transmit this ray through its personality (cf. EA 280)

  15.   See #9 above.

16.   Mercury (manas) is closely associated with the fifth ray.

  16.   See #4 above.

17.   Uranus is exalted in Scorpio and transmits the seventh ray.

  17.   Uranus transmits the seventh ray. Saturn has strong seventh ray associations. Jupiter (esoteric ruler) transmits the seventh ray.

18.   Uranus transmits the first ray monadically, as it is the “home of fire electric.” (TCF 1154)

  18.   See #2 above.

19.   Uranus participates in the expression of a great second ray Entity (EPII 99), and helps to bring the second ray to Earth from Sirius and Pisces (EA 432)

  19.   Aquarius is the eleventh sign on the reversed wheel. Since eleven sums to two, Aquarius has numerical affinity with the second ray. Jupiter, the esoteric ruler of Aquarius, transmits the second ray. Neptune, a Moon-veiled hierarchical ruler, transmits the second ray monadically. Vulcan (a Moon-veiled hierarchical ruler) is associated with the “heart of the Sun” (EA   ), and Uranus (exoteric ruler) is placed in a line of second ray transmission from Sirius, and participates in the three lower vehicles (probably as the mental body)  of a great second ray Entity (EPII 99)

20.   Uranus rules “exoteric science” and, hence, is related to the fifth ray.

  20.   See #4 above.

This is beautifully expressed for us in the legend of Hercules, the Sun-God who overcomes the nine-headed Hydra or serpent of desire by being forced to his knees and from that position of humility lifts up the serpent into the air, and then deliverance comes.” (EA 143-144)

  10.   Aquarius upon the Cross of Discipleship: “In Aquarius—In this sign, the long effort of the soul is consummated and concludes the experience of the disciple upon the Fixed Cross.   19.   The Life of the Christ from an Aquarian Perspective: “The expression of this influence has been beautifully given to us in the story of the Last Supper. Similarities and Points of Cooperation Between the Influences

 Similarities and Points of Cooperation
Between the Zodiacal Influences

A.   These signs are in square relationship to each other and are apparently very different but are both intimately involved in the transformational process. They are deeply occult signs and give facility in the occult sciences.

With Scorpio we find Uranus as the exalted planet and with Aquarius, the orthodox ruler. With Scorpio, the entire energy system is rededicated to higher purposes and the forces of death are transformed into the forces of life. And Aquarius represents that fully alive state when all the forces of the system reach their maximum potential for distribution in service.

So these are both signs which break with the status quo and which are involved with the living of the hierarchical life. Scorpio giving the struggles that make it possible to live the super human life in Aquarius.

B.   Both are powerful transformative signs upon the fixed cross, the cross in which man is changed from the human animal into the manifesting soul. Both certainly relate to atomic energy and to the atomic energy within human beings. As a matter of fact, all the various shaktis. There is a liberation of human power staged under these signs.

The traditional way of doing things and of thinking is subject to Saturn, subject to materialism. But both of these signs are powerfully Uranian and lead into the new and more empowered way.

C.   Both are signs of the Will. As previously explained, Scorpio relates to the Herculean will and Aquarius is clearly connected with the Great Bear and with the pole star and other powerful sources from which emanate the Will energy, emanates the Will energy.

With Scorpio, we have the Will of the individual disciple and with Aquarius, the Will of the consecrated group such as the Hierarchy.

So it could be said that in both signs the powerful transformative Will is active. Part of this transformation is reducing the power of the Ahamkara principle, the egoistic principle.

Interestingly Scorpio stages the release of Leo which means the defeat of the lower ahamkaric principle or limited sense of I am. And the Sun is the ruler of Leo and represents this principle.

The Sun is also in detriment in Aquarius where the group Will and group realization off sets egoistic self determination.

So it can be seen that both of these signs are involved in the defeat of lower egoism. To a greater or lesser extent, all signs of the zodiac when considered in their positive light are dedicated to this principle, but some are more dramatically effective than others and individualistic selfish self determination is severely challenged in these two signs. One can carry this further and see how both signs are associated with the complete defeat of egoism at the fourth initiation, for Scorpio is a sign which contributes to the destruction of the causal body, distributing as it does the fourth Ray and being so intimately associated with the processes of death and darkness and loss and crucifixion. And Aquarius is related to the Arhat state of consciousness achieved at the fourth initiation with the perfected world server, one who needs no longer to return to human life. There is powerful monadic energy associated with both of these signs.

Pluto carries this monadic energy as can be seen by its strong association with Shamballa and Aries and Aquarius carries the energy of the Great Bear and is also related to a hidden etheric constellation between us and the pole star through which constellation the dynamic powers of Will are transmitted.

And indeed, at the fourth initiation there is a great empowerment and the initiate becomes radiant with the power of the higher triad. In fact, the initiate becomes a soul or a triad and this triadship is in general, ruled by the sign Aquarius. The initiate has become the higher personality, Aquarius, rather than the lower personality Leo.

So the relationship between these two signs in connection with the fourth initiation can be seen.

D.   There is a powerful scientific nature connected with both of these signs. There is the capacity for research. This is often associated with Scorpio and its rulerships by Pluto and Mercury support this idea and even its rulership by Mars which has been said to rule concrete science.

Aquarius with its fifth Ray and rulership orthodoxly by Uranus is equally involved in research pursuits.

In fact, the combination of both of these signs makes for a powerful occultist, one who knows how to discover and liberate the energies hidden within the human constitution.

E.      From another point of view, both of these signs are Christ centered. We have in Scorpio the crucified Christ and in Aquarius, the risen and living Christ. We see that the process of crucifixion represents a great empowerment and both of these signs are indeed signs of empowerment.

They also relate to the use of resources. Scorpio is the multiplication of resources, group resources and group power and Aquarius is the creative use of these resources.

F.      Both of these signs are involved in the drama of human resurrection, the dramatic improvement of the human condition from its horrific state to the final realization of the human dream represented by Aquarius.

And Scorpio then would represent the friction and the strife which produces the pearl of culture harvested and revealed in Aquarius.
