11.
Cancer has no specific relation to the first three initiations.
Since Neptune (inducing love and inclusive idealism) is so important
at the second initiation (EA
71, 297-298), Cancer must be implicated. After the third
initiation, the Cancerian can become “the Crab, who clears the ocean of matter which flows
around the soul of man” (EA 62) In subtle ways Cancer
must be related to the fourth (EA 218) and eighth initiations (relating
to unmanifested Hierarchy V—eighth from below). |
|
11.
Associated with the regulatory, balancing, reorienting first
initiation; with the proportion-inducing, ideal-subduing, de-glamorizing
second initiation, and with the decisive, nirvanic sixth
initiation—the initiation of Decision. |
12.
Cancer can be reasonably associated with the protective and
nourishment-giving centers in the breasts and, particularly,
with the instinctual, bi-polar, emotionally sensitive solar
plexus center. The disease, cancer, is strongly associated
with a disturbed, congested solar plexus; the sign and
the disease are, in fact, related. The sacral center
(involved in form-building) cannot be ignored. The chakras in
the ‘gripping’ hands are related. When Neptune (the esoteric
and hierarchical ruler) functions buddhically, the sign Cancer
can also be related to the compassionate, humanity-embracing
heart center. |
|
12.
Libra can be reasonably associated with the sexually-unitive,
form-generating sacral center, and with the decision-making,
force-balancing, triadally responsive ajna center. Libra
has so much of the third ray (as do its rulers Uranus and Saturn,
with Venus ruling Taurus, the sign of the throat) that throat
center influence is to be expected. Libra can be connected be
connected with the center at the base of the spine, from
which stems the Sushumna—the “royal road” to Shamballa. (cf.
EA 168) |
13.
The zodiacal signs influence the Monad of every human being
(EA 411, 637, TCF 1191);
the influence from Gemini makes it possible for the “Brother”
who is the “prodigal son” to go forth into a “far country” (as
the Monad-in-substantial-immersion), and yet, remain
‘at home’ within the Father’s House as the “elder Brother” Who
did not go forth (i.e., as the Monad undiminished upon
its own level of consciousness). Thus is the Monad “in the world
yet not of the world”. Gemini endows the Monad with its
all-pervasive omnipresence relative to the human energy
system. “Having pervaded the entire
Universe with a fragment of myself, I remain.” |
|
13.
The zodiacal signs influence the Monad of every human being
(EA 411, 637, TCF 1191);
the influence from Libra governs the ‘Path of Return”, by means
of which the immersed Monad regains its originating source.
(cf. EA 168) Libra also
endows the Monad with power from the Dragon and Pleiades and
ensures that the Monad performs its part in the balancing
of planetary karma, for every Monad is a cell within
the planetary Logos. |
14.
Within the Triad—Gemini, the third sign, is related to
higher manas (the third aspect of the Triad).
Higher manas formulates into abstract thought the revelations
of the ‘idea-patterns’ to be found upon the buddhic plane. Gemini,
as its dualistic symbol reveals, is also related to the divine
love, pure reason and intuitive revelations of buddhi,
the second aspect of the Spiritual Triad. |
|
14.
In relation to the Triad—it can be said that Libra (the ruler
of the third manifested Creative Hierarchy—the Triple Flowers)
rules the Spiritual Triad as a whole. Within the Triad
Libra, transmitting constellationally (exoterically) only the
third ray, and related to “super-mind”, is clearly influential
in relation to the higher mind—higher manas. Libra and
Saturn are also express through the atmic plane, and
hence are related to the principle—atma—Spiritual Will.
Not surprisingly, Libra “admits the soul” to Shamballa. Eventually,
Libra, ruling the union of all polarities, will be shown to
be related to buddhi as well. |
15.
In relation to the Solar Angel, and the soul-consciousness (and
causal body) through which it expresses—Gemini can be seen as
governing the pulsations of Solar-Angelic thought and vitality
which rhythmically stimulate the personality. Gemini can be
associated with the attempt the Solar Angel to ‘communicate’
with the personality. |
|
15.
In relation to the Solar Angel, and the soul-consciousness (and
causal body) through which it expresses—Libra represents the
skill, wisdom and power of the Solar Angel to supervise a balanced
development in its personality. Libra is one of the major signs
of karma, which the Solar Angel wisely administrates
to ensure that the personality is eventually governed by the
Law of Love. |
16.
Within the Personality—Cancer can be identified with the memory
and retentiveness of the lower mental nature; with the
sensitivity and receptivity of the astral nature;
with the de-vitalization or insufficient vitalization
of the etheric nature; and, with the tenacity of the
physical elemental as it seeks to perpetuate the integrity of
its life. In general, Cancer (through the Moon) is especially
associated with the dense physical form as a first solar system
‘residue’, and with the fourth or personality elemental (arising
from the lesser three). (The vehicular focus and its degree of prominence, depends
upon the stage of evolutionary development.) |
|
16.
Within the Personality—Libra can be identified with the evaluative,
judicial and decision-making processes of the lower
mental nature; with balancing and proportion-inducing
processes within the astral nature; with the harmonizing
of energy flows within the etheric nature; and, in general,
with the energetic balance of the dense physical form.
Libra has a special connection with the mental permanent
atom. (EA 302) (The vehicular
focus and its degree of prominence, depends upon the stage of
evolutionary development.) |
17. Stage
within a Preliminary Fourfold Meditative Process: Incarnation,
Embodiment |
|
17.
Stage of Meditative Consciousness: Contemplation. “Libra—Contemplation—Life of soul and form is balanced.
Neither dominates. Equilibrium. An interlude wherein the soul
organises itself for battle and the personality waits. This
is the probationary path. Duality known.” |

1.
Expressive principally of the third or Intelligence aspect—in
relation to matter. (EA 351) The incarnation process under the rulership of
Cancer “is initiation into the creative
third aspect, the matter aspect and the world of intelligent activity.”
(EH 144) Since ruled by Neptune and related to the Pleiades,
Cancer is correlated to buddhi (TCF 1162), and thus, also, is linked to the
second aspect of divinity. |
|
1.
Expressive, principally of the third aspect of the divinity,
with an expression of the second aspect slowly emerging.”
“This sign is consequently closely
connected with the third aspect of the Godhead.” (EA 243)
“It is through a study of Libra
that light upon the third aspect will come.” (EA 244) “Libra—Divine
Love—Understanding” (EA333) |
2.
Cosmically associated primarily with the Pleiades. “Pleiades—Cancer—Venus—Humanity”
(EA 416) |
|
2.
Related cosmically to the Pleiades. “Libra—is
related to and transmits the potencies of the Pleiades.” (EA 349)
Libra is also related to the Dragon and the Dragon to the Pleiades.
“The adepts who choose this Path
are called esoterically the ‘beneficent dragons,’ and the energy
with which they work and the stream of living force upon which
they are found emanates from the constellation of the Dragon,
working through the zodiacal sign Libra.” (TCF 1245) D.K. speaks
of the “…buddhic force, which is transmitted via the Seven Sisters
or the Pleiades from a constellation called the Dragon…” (TCF
1162) Libra is related to
one of the stars in the Great Bear. (A triangle?—Mizar-Libra-Sun?)
(R&I 404) |
3.
Three Constellations Connected (symbolically) with Cancer: a)
Ursa Major—the Great Bear; b) Ursa Minor—the Little Bear; c) Argo—the

There are eighty three stars to be found ‘within’ this constellation.
(LOH 87-88) Tradition connects both Ursa Major and Minor with
“flock(s) of sheep” and “sheepfold(s)” |

Libra
|
1.
Cancer transmits the third ray constellationally. |
|
1.
Libra transmits the third ray, constellationally. Uranus,
the esoteric ruler, is closely associated with the third
ray (EA 138, 200), and may well transmit this ray as its personality
ray. Saturn, exalted and ruling hierarchically, transmits the
third ray monadically and probably, in addition, through
its soul. |
2.
Cancer transmits the seventh ray constellationally. |
|
2.
Libra is the seventh sign of the zodiac on both the reversed
and ordinary wheels and, hence, has numerical affinity with the
seventh ray. Uranus, ruling Libra esoterically, transmits
the seventh ray. Saturn, ruling hierarchically and exalted,
has seventh ray associations, through its rulership of
the dense systemic physical plane and cosmic physical plane—being
the permanent atom of the latter. (TCF 406). |
3.
Cancer is the fourth sign of the zodiac on the reversed
wheel and, hence, has numerical affinity with the number four
and with the fourth ray. |
|
3.
Libra, because of its oscillatory nature, may well have some subtle
fourth ray associations—destined to emerge more in other
world periods. Venus, too, seems to have the higher more
harmonious part of the fourth ray associated with
it. But there are no direct fourth ray connections linking
these two constellations. |
4.
Cancer is the tenth sign of the zodiac on the clockwise
wheel and, hence, has numerical affinity with the number one
and with the first ray. This is not a strong representation
of the first ray. Only the presence of a generically veiled
Vulcan, which could be described as the ‘will asleep in matter’,
would bring in the first ray—mostly from the angle of resistance.
However, a great first ray power is indicated as latent—inured
in matter. |
|
4.
Libra governs the entry into Shamballa, hence must be associated
with the first ray. “Libra admits the soul into the world centre which we
call Shamballa, for it is the polar opposite of Aries which is
the place of beginnings” (EA 168) .Uranus, the esoteric
ruler of Libra, transmits the first ray “esoterically”—i.e.,
monadically. “Uranus is the home of ‘fire electric’.” (TCF 1154)
Saturn, the hierarchical ruler of Libra (also exalted in this
sign) transmits the first ray powerfully. (EA 450) “This
is why Saturn is so powerful a ruler and transmitter to the Earth
of the dynamic quality of the first ray of power” ( EA 621) |
5.
The Moon, the exoteric ruler of cancer, transmits the fourth
ray. |
|
5.
See #3 above. |
6.
The Moon is closely related to the third ray. (EA 280) |
|
6.
See #1 above. |
7.
The Moon is closely related to the seventh ray, through
its rulership of the seventh manifested Creative Hierarchy,
and its general association with dense physical matter. |
|
7.
See #2 above. |
8.
Neptune, the esoteric and hierarchical ruler of Cancer (and exalted,
with Jupiter, as well), transmits the sixth ray. |
|
8.
Counting from Pisces as the first sign (which the Tibetan also
does) Libra is the sixth sign on the clockwise wheel, and,
hence, numerically resonant with the sixth ray. Venus, exoteric
ruler of Libra, is closely associated with the sixth ray
(TCF 595), and probably transmits
this ray monadically. If one begins with Pisces as one counts
signs upon the ordinary wheel (and this the Tibetan does at least
once), Libra is the sixth sign, thus having resonance with
the sixth ray. |
9.
Neptune also transmits the second ray, monadically. (EPI
421) |
|
9.
Libra is also the second sign when numbering by polarities
(Aries, Libra, Taurus, Scorpio, etc., and, hence, has numerical
resonance with the second ray, which it may more powerfully
express in a future world period. Venus (exoteric ruler), called
by the Tibetan, “pure love wisdom” can be considered as transmitting
the second ray. (EA 281) |
10.
Neptune is associated with the fourth plane, the buddhic
plane, and with the energy of buddhi. “”No man begins to coordinate the buddhic vehicle until
he comes under the influence of Neptune…. When this happens, his
personality horoscope will show this influence as dominant” (TCF
899) |
|
10.
See #3 above. |
11.
Neptune, as “God of the Waters” is associated with “matter” and,
hence, with the third ray. “Neptune is as you know, the God of the waters, and
the term “water” covers many angles of the esoteric wisdom, such
as: The whole concept of matter—universal and itemised….” (EA
275) |
|
11.
See #1 above. |
12.
Jupiter is exalted in Cancer and transmits the second ray. |
|
12.
See #9 above. |
13.
Jupiter is exalted in Cancer and transmits the seventh
ray through “ritualistic worship.” (EA 660) |
|
13.
See #2 above. |
14.
Jupiter (exalted in Cancer) through its enthusiasm and aspirational
nature has defensible connections to the sixth ray. |
|
14.
See #8 above. |
15.
There are no definite fifth ray transmissions through Cancer.
Again, only a possibly generically veiled Vulcan has fifth
ray associations. |
|
15.
Venus, the exoteric ruler of Libra, transmits the fifth
ray. Uranus has strong fifth ray associations through its rulership
of “exoteric science” (EA 149), and Saturn is easily seen as
associated with the concrete mind (the generic ray of which
is the fifth), and with the Law of Cleavages. “This fifth
ray energy operates in connection with the Law of Cleavages.”
(R&I 602). |

three, blended together, came into outer manifestation in Cancer,
thus completing an esoteric quaternary of great importance.
. Here the first major fusion, inchoate and unrealised, took

Similarities
and Points of Cooperation
Between the Zodiacal Influences
Both Cancer
and Libra are Cardinal signs and both are magnetized by relationship
but Cancer gives familial relationships and Libra relationship between
equals.
Both distribute
the 3rd Ray constellationally and hence are involved
with manas and intelligence.
The fifth creative
hierarchy under Cancer, itself the synthesis of the five aspects
of manas, and interestingly Libra is the ruler of the fifth creative
hierarchy counting from below upwards, both share a fair measure
of caution which comes through the 3rd Ray.
Cancer is ever
protective and aware of the possibility of repercussion upon that
which it seeks to protect.
Libra instinctively
understands consequences and the concept that for every action there
is an equal and opposite reaction. Karma itself comes not only
under 1st Ray law but under the 3rd Ray of
intelligence and balance.
Interestingly
the fates associated with the 3rd Ray are ever considered
weavers and spinners.
Looking at the
three air signs:
Aquarius
represents the 1st Ray,
Gemini the 2nd, and
Libra most probably the 3rd.
Of the three
water signs:
Scorpio
represents the 1st Ray,
Pisces the 2nd and
Cancer the 3rd.
Through Cancer
also comes the second Ray and because Libra is the 7th
sign and is esoterically ruled by the 7th Ray planet
Uranus – much 7th Ray comes through as well, therefore
both signs are effective in creative manifestation.
Libra is the
anchor of the 1st Ray sign Aries found opposite it and
Cancer is the anchor of the 1st Ray sign Capricorn found
opposite it.
Both Aries and
Capricorn are related to the father aspect which must ground itself
in matter. From one perspective the natives of both Cancer and Libra
suffer from a bound condition. With Cancer the child is bound to
the parent and the parent to the child. With Libra the partners
or lovers are bound together.
There is a need
in both instances for establishing a degree of independent functioning
within the relationship for both signs conduce to a degree of co-dependence.
With Cancer it is much less likely to achieve the necessary detachment
because only soft-line energies come through the planetary rulers
and no 1st Ray at all, whereas for Libra, the hierarchical
rulership of Saturn and the esoteric rulership of Uranus, convey
1st Ray energy.
Both signs as
well, are interested in a degree of permanence. Cancer, sensitive
as it is, is interested in a condition of changelessness and complete
protection and stability for it represents the foundation of the
chart. Libra is also interested in stability, its powerful 7th
Ray gives it this tendency and the law of which it is the representative,
is a method of producing stability within society.
Sometimes, Libra
too, represents the static situation of an achieved status quo or
of a balance which has moved to the point of stasis.
Interestingly,
both of these signs are associated with money. Cancer particularly
is connected with the Law of Economy, as the 3rd and
7th Rays, the financial Rays, passing through it indicate.
Libra is associated
with money as a medium of exchange and a medium of equilibrizing
relationships within society.
Both signs therefore,
seek situations which cannot be easily disrupted and some of the
greatest stresses in life occur with either the disruption of the
family or the disruption of relationships.
Equal to this
of course, stands the disruption of the career ruled by Capricorn,
another sign which seeks to achieve a degree of stability and permanence.
