Associated with the first five initiations: the soul/Self-revealing,
soul-law-imposing, Christ-birthing first; the emotion-controlling,
‘un-capsized’, ‘water-crossing’ second; the soul-illumined,
personality-transfiguring, three-aspect-synthesizing third;
the isolation-inducing, world-renouncing fourth; and
the supernally-lighted, mountain-peak-revelatory fifth.
Saturn (ruling Capricorn) does not follow a man onto the Cardinal
Cross. |
|
10.
Association with refuse-flushing, fire-cleansing, fellowship-inducing
second initiation; the ego-negating, light-pervading,
soul-inspiring third initiation; the personality-renouncing,
life-energizing fourth initiation; and, conceivably,
with the abundant life of the beneficently organizing fifth
degree. |
11.
Capricorn can be reasonably associated with the clear-seeing,
forcefully-penetrating, powerfully directing ajna and
brow centers, and the ‘dominating’, all-controlling
crown center. Capricorn must be connected to the magically
materializing throat and sacral centres via the
third and seventh rays (resonant to both centers). The humility-inducing
centers at the knees are also indicated. Also associated
with Capricorn are the central “jewels” in all the chakras. |
|
11. Aquarius can be reasonably associated with the entire
abundantly-radiating, synthetic crown center, and the
united radiation of the chakra centers as a whole. When the
ajna center responds to the universal mind, the envisioning
of the archetypally-destined future appears. Aquarius transmits
the third ray, and thus relates to the throat center
(through ruling Saturn, Uranus and Vulcan as well). Aquarius,
is esoterically ruled by Jupiter, the planet controlling the
group-inclusive heart center. The evolving Aquarian
is subject to many emotional highs and lows, thus connecting
Aquarius to the solar plexus center. (EA 141-142) Also,
through Uranus, with the form-creating sacral center
which generates “waters of life” in a more material sense.
As well, seventh-ray Uranus is numerically related to the
seventh or basal center, bringing Aquarius into the relation. |
12.
The zodiacal signs influence the Monad of every human being
(EA 411, 637, TCF 1191); the influence from Capricorn causes
the Monad (even in immersion) to be guided by Shamballic and
Logoic Law. There are lines which the Monad may not cross
as it ‘super-vises’ its own Self-extension. It must
leave its fragment ‘free within limits’; free-will (of
a relative kind) must not be violated. The initiatory power,
flowing through Monad from Capricorn, endows the Monad-in-extension
with the power to face every obstacle and re-ascend to its source.
This re-ascent is initiation. |
|
12.
The zodiacal signs influence the Monad of every human being
(EA 411, 637, TCF 1191); the influence from Aquarius governs
the large monadic groups or ‘monadic ashrams’, which
aggregations exist upon the monadic plane. The universal
awareness of the Monad is inspired and enhanced by the Aquarian
energy. The Monad is a ‘center of synthesis’ and a ‘center within
synthesis’. The Aquarian energy stimulates the universality
and synthetic awareness of the Monad. |
13. Within the Triad—Capricorn is most associated
with atma (first triadal aspect) and higher manas
(third triadal aspect). Capricorn transmits the first
ray which relates it to the will and law emanating from the
atmic plane. Capricorn transmits the third ray, as well, which
relates it not only to higher manas but, again, to atma,
for the atmic plane is the third systemic plane, and
is a plane of both law/will and mind—the atmic
mind—God’s mind as directly expressive of God’s will/law. Capricorn
is less related to buddhi, though it is the sign admitting
(via hierarchical Venus) into the buddhic dimension known as
Hierarchy. |
|
13.
Within the Triad—Aquarius is related principally to higher
manas and to atma as both of them reflect, to differing
degrees, the Universal Mind (EA 241, 322, 495). Aquarius transmits the third
ray constellationally (EA 138), and has rulers or sub-rulers which
do the same. Aquarius “expresses the universal consciousness
of the Great Bear” linking it to atma, in yet another
way. The energy of Aquarius, as well, stimulates and blends
with buddhi, principally by inducing loving group-cohesion.
The Tibetan speaks of “universal love of the truly developed
Aquarian.” (EA 136) This is an expression of buddhi. |
14. In relation to the Solar Angel, and the soul-consciousness
(and causal body) through which it expresses—Capricorn can be
understood as the will of the Solar Angel to master its
personality, through total soul-infusion leading to transfiguration
and subsequent crucifixion. Karmic confrontation with residual
darkness is enforced from ‘above’, and the power to transcend
matter bestowed. The will aspect of the Solar Angel is
strongly asserted, leaving the responsive personality no choice
but elevation. (cf. EP II 174) |
|
14.
In relation to the Solar Angel, and the soul-consciousness (and
causal body) through which it expresses—Aquarius represents
the dowering of the personality with all super-human, transcendental
gifts which the Solar Angel may safely bestow. Aquarius represents
the patient service of the Solar Angel to its long-developing
personality, and the consequent elevation of the human soul
from the human to the super-human state of the fifth kingdom—the
Kingdom of Souls. Aquarius rules the generous distribution of
beneficent Solar-Angelic radiation to (and through) its
personality |
15. Within the Personality—Capricorn can be identified
with the concretizing, regulatory and disciplining
processes of the lower mental nature; with processes which focus,
control and deepen the astral nature; with organizational
and co-ordinative processes within the etheric
vehicle; and the with maintenance and survival
of the dense physical vehicle—of which Capricorn represents
the density. (The vehicular focus and its degree
of prominence, depends upon the stage of evolutionary development.)
|
|
15.
Within the Personality—Aquarius can be identified with the power
to vitalize, unify and synthesize thought,
which eventually develops within the lower mental nature; with
the cleansing, drying, and eventual distributive
radiation of the love-responsive astral nature; with the
electric vitalization of the etheric nature; and, in
general, with the nervous animation of the dense physical
form. Aquarius “is eventually connected with the physical permanent atom.”
(EA 302) (The
vehicular focus and its degree of prominence, depends upon the
stage of evolutionary development.) |

1.
Expressive primarily of the first and third aspects
of divinity. “CAPRICORN. This is the constellation by means of
which comes the conquering will which releases from form life
and initiates the man into the kingdom wherein the will aspect
(not the soul aspect) of divinity expresses itself.” (EA 620)
Capricorn is the major transmitter of the seventh ray which
is related to the first aspect. “The
seventh ray is, in the last analysis, the focussed differentiated
energy of Ray One as it expresses the will of the first aspect
of divinity on earth…” (EA 138) “the third and fifth rays work
pre-eminently through this sign, embodying the third major aspect
of divinity, active intelligence plus that of its subsidiary power,
the fifth Ray of Mind.” (EA 164) |
|
1.
Expressive, principally, of the third divine aspect “…the
third ray expresses itself powerfully through this sign” (EA 138)—strongly
connected, however, with both the first and second
aspects. “At this time and in a
peculiar manner, the initiate-consciousness sees the Hierarchy
as primarily energised by life, and by the energy of Aquarius,
carrying a hitherto unknown aspect of the life energy of deity.”
(R&I 229) Aquarius rules Hierarchy. “…our
Hierarchy [is] (an expression of the second aspect of divinity)…”
(EA197) |
2.
Related cosmically to the Pleiades. “…from
these three (The Pleiades, Capricorn, Mercury. A.A.B.) Man takes
a nature which is his today. Son of the Mother, born from the
tomb and showing after birth the light which he has taken from
them all.” (EA 433, also 427-428) Capricorn is necessarily
related to the Great Bear because, like Aries, and Leo, it transmits
the first ray. (cf. EA 417) Capricorn,
the “great sign of initiation” (EA
173) is almost certainly related to Sirius, “the great
star of initiation.” (EA 197) Venus completes a triangle. |
|
2.
Strong cosmic association with the Pole Star, Alcyone, also an
invisible constellation, and the Great Bear: “The
influence which emanates from the Pole Star and which is such
a potent factor in our solar system reaches our planet via the
sign Aquarius.” (TCF 1263)
“Aquarius, Alcyone and Humanity constitute a most interesting
triangle of force. Alcyone is one of the seven Pleiades and is
called the ‘star of the Individual’ and sometimes the ‘star of
intelligence’.” (EA 200) “The source of energy to which they respond
may be regarded as the Pole Star. It should nevertheless be pointed
out that this star serves only as a blind for a constellation
which lies behind,—a constellation which exists only in etheric
matter. It is consequently ignored by astronomers, though its
influence is exceedingly potent within our system.” (TCF 1262)
Also, “Aquarius—expresses the universal consciousness of
the Great Bear.” (EA 349) |

1.
Saturn is considered by many to be a ruler of Aquarius. “Some astrologers assign Saturn as one of the rulers. Alan Leo does
so, but I would point out that in this case he is dealing entirely with
the progress of the ordinary man upon the wheel of life, and the Saturn
which he senses as ruling Aquarius is the Saturnian influence of Capricorn,

Aquarius
|
1.
Capricorn transmits the first ray, constellationally.
|
|
1.
Aquarius, itself, may have implicate first ray associations.
“Aquarius—expresses the universal
consciousness of the Great Bear” (EA 349) The Great Bear
(as a whole) transmits the first ray. (cf. TCF 146). Aquarius, is the tenth sign on
the reversed wheel, numbering by polarities (Aries-Libra, Taurus-Scorpio,
etc.) and thus has numerical resonance with the first ray.
Uranus, the exoteric ruler, transmits the first
ray monadically. (EPI 421) Saturn, a possible alternative ruler
in Aquarius, transmits the first ray probably in its personality,
but perhaps its soul. (EA 450) Moon-veiled Vulcan and Uranus both transmit the first
ray—the first as the monadic ray, the second, probably, as the
soul ray. |
2.
Capricorn transmits the third ray, constellationally. In addition,
Capricorn is the third sign of the zodiac on the clockwise
wheel, beginning number with Pisces. This numerical fact reinforces
the relationship of Capricorn to the third ray.
|
|
2.
“The third ray expresses itself powerfully through” Aquarius
constellationally. (EA 138). Aquarius is also the third sign of
the zodiac on the clock-wise wheel, therefore having numerical
affinity with the third ray. Uranus transmits the third
ray (probably through its personality) as does Saturn (considered
an alternative ruler in this sign) through its Monad, and probably,
also, its soul. The Moon-veiled Uranus also transmits the third
ray. |
3.
Capricorn transmits the seventh ray, constellationally.
|
|
3.
Uranus transmits the seventh ray. Saturn has strong seventh
ray associations. Jupiter (esoteric ruler) transmits the seventh
ray. |
4. Capricorn may, in some subtle matter, transmits the fifth
ray (independently of its hierarchial ruler Venus). Ray 5.—Concrete
Knowledge or Science, under the influence of Capricorn, focussed
through Venus, which will enable the man to take initiation.”
(EA 357) Also, “Capricorn is an earth sign and because the third
and fifth rays work pre-eminently through this sign, embodying
the third major aspect of divinity, active intelligence plus
that of its subsidiary power, the fifth Ray of Mind.
These pour through Capricorn to Saturn and to Venus and so reach
our planet, the Earth.” (EA 164) Note the word, “through.”
|
|
4.
Aquarius transmits the fifth ray constellationally. Uranus,
the exoteric ruler, (and a veiled hierarchial rulers) can
stand for “exoteric science” (EP 149) and, hence, has fifth ray associations.
Saturn, a possible alternative ruler, is associated with the concrete
mind and, hence, with the fifth principle. Vulcan, (a
veiled hierarchical ruler) relates to the concretion and physical
precipitation, as does the fifth ray. |
5.
Capricorn is the tenth sign on the reversed wheel, hence
numerologically associated with the number one and, by
numerical affinity, with the first ray. |
|
5.
See #1 above. |
6.
Capricorn is the fourth
sign of the zodiac on the clock-wise wheel—hence, resonant with
the fourth ray (especially through its rulership over ‘for-m’
and establishment). |
|
6.
The Moon (hierarchical ruler) is the veiling transmitter of the
fourth ray. Moon-veiled Vulcan is closely related to the
fourth ray, the fourth kingdom, and the fourth
initiation. Neptune ( a Moon-veiled hierarchical ruler)
is associated with the fourth ray through its relationship to
buddhi, and to the fourth , or buddhic, plane. |
7.
Saturn is the exoteric and hierarchical ruler of Capricorn and
transmits the third ray monadically (EPI 421), and, probably,
through its soul. |
|
7.
See #2 above. |
8.
Saturn, the exoteric and esoteric ruler, is a strong transmitter
of the first ray. (EA 450, 621). |
|
8.
See #1 above. |
9.
Saturn has strong seventh ray associations through that
fact that it is the “logoic physical permanent atom” in relation
to the cosmic physical plane (TCF 406), hence strongly involved
in the manifestation of the cosmic physical plane.
|
|
9.
See #3 above. |
10.
Saturn is associated with the concrete mind (concretion pertains
to the fifth ray). |
|
10.
See #4 above. |
11.
Venus, the hierarchical ruler of Capricorn, transmits the fifth
ray. |
|
11.
See #4 above. |
12.
Venus, the hierarchial ruler of Capricorn, is “pure love-wisdom”,
and hence, transmits the second ray. (EA 281) |
|
12.
Aquarius is the eleventh sign on the reversed wheel. Since
eleven sums to two, Aquarius has numerical affinity with
the second ray. Jupiter, the esoteric ruler of Aquarius,
transmits the second ray. Neptune, a Moon-veiled hierarchical
ruler, transmits the second ray monadically. Vulcan (a
Moon-veiled hierarchical ruler) is associated with the “heart
of the Sun” (EA ), and Uranus (exoteric ruler) is placed in
a line of second ray transmission from Sirius, and participates
in the three lower vehicles (probably as the mental body) of
a great second ray Entity (EPII 99) |
13.
Venus, the hierarchical ruler of Capricorn, transmits the sixth
ray, probably monadically. |
|
13.
Neptune (a Moon-veiled hierarchical ruler) transmits the
sixth ray. Enthusiastic Jupiter has a probable connection
to the sixth ray. |
14.
Venus, the hierarchical ruler of Capricorn, may have some higher
fourth ray associations—harmony and beauty. |
|
14.
See #6 above. |
15.
Mars (exalted in Capricorn) transmits the sixth ray
|
|
15.
See #6 above. |
16.
Mars, exalted in Capricorn, teaches “those whose work lies along
the lines of the destroyer”, hence must transmit the first
ray. (TCF 1179) |
|
16.
See #1 above. |
17.
Mars (exalted) participates in the expression of the third
ray through a great third ray Entity. |
|
17.
See #2 above. |
18.
Mars (exalted in Capricorn) is closely related to the fifth
ray through science, as well as through its rulership of the five
senses.” Thirdly, Mars governs the senses which are five in
number. These senses are the basis of all human knowledge where
that which is tangible and objective is concerned or inferred.
Mars, therefore, rules science and hence the reason in this present
era for the fundamental but not permanent [Page 216] materiality
of science—” (EA 215-216) |
|
18.
See #4 above. |
19.
Mars (exalted in Capricorn) is
a major planet of conflict, so it is difficult not to think that
Mars has some strong fourth ray association—perhaps within
its personality vehicles. “The theme of that ray is "Harmony through Conflict"
and it is the lower aspect of the ray energy, producing conflict
which has hitherto controlled, and is climaxing now through the
impetus of the new incoming Shamballa force.” (EA 328) |
|

universality of the water of life will become a factor in human

Similarities
and Points of Cooperation Between the Influences |
Similarities
and Points of Cooperation
Between the Zodiacal Influences
A.
Both of these signs are strongly connected with the Spiritual
Hierarchy. True entrance into the Hierarchy is achieved through
Capricorn. But Hierarchy as a creative body, a body distributing
love and light comes very much under the influence of Aquarius.
So Hierarchy
as a power structure under the supervision of Sanat Kumara is
regulated by Capricorn, but as a bestower of benevolence, it comes
under Aquarius.
B.
Both of these signs are closely associated with the seventh Ray
- Capricorn because it largely distributes the seventh Ray and
Aquarius through its association with Uranus. Therefore, they
are active in the manifestation of the new world.
Capricorn
manifests the best and the highest quality of the old world and
Aquarius attempts to materialize the new. Capricorn in this respect
represents the best that orthodoxy has to offer and Aquarius,
the best that can be precipitated from alignment with super-consciousness.
C.
So these are clearly signs of manifestation, signs by means of
which the kingdom of heaven, represented as well by Capricorn
as the Spiritual Hierarchy does come to earth. Both signs have
a close relation as well with the third Ray.
We remember
that the third Ray is distributed through Capricorn and Aquarius
is the third sign counting in clockwise order from Aries.
Also, Saturn
and Uranus much associated with Aquarius, distribute the third
Ray. So there is much of practical intelligence in these two signs
and relation to the divine mind, also to time in general.
And in Aquarius
the great laws of cycles are studied and understood coming obviously
under the aegis of time. Whenever the third Ray and the seventh
Ray appear together, the factor of time and cycles is very important
and many fine astrologers who have to have a mastery of time and
cycles are found born with Capricorn or Aquarius prominent. Especially
is this so of predictive astrologers and those who work with the
idea of precipitation.
D.
In another sense, both signs are united by their impersonality.
There is a certain coolness and objectivity and detachment perhaps
coming from the Saturn influence present in both signs although
there is warmth and friendliness present in Aquarius. Nevertheless,
Aquarians are known for their coolness and their detachment and
Capricornians at times for their coldness.
Again, these
two signs can be seen serving as a unit, for Capricorn represents
the skeletal structure which is the stability of any system and
Aquarius, the circulatory system either through blood vessels
or nerves which distribute the life to the entire system held
in place by Capricorn.
E. Both
signs as well have a powerfully mental rather than emotional attitude.
The concrete mind with its thoughtform making power is connected
with the third, fifth and seventh Rays.
Thought is
one of the beginning stages of the manifestation process and the
power to concretize thought is well pronounced in both signs.
There is also
a relation to the third aspect of divinity and to the symbol of
that third aspect, money. Capricorn is directly associated with
the law of economy and with the lawful control of money in the
world.
The principally
financial rays, three and seven, are powerful through Capricorn,
but Aquarius rules the sharing of bread and interestingly bread
is a symbol in common parlance of the third aspect of divinity.
And so the resources of society will be properly distributed under
Aquarius and finances will be allocated the better to make a new
world. So there is a strong financial cooperation between these
two signs, between the practical men of Capricorn and the visionaries
of Aquarius.
F. Generally,
the unite in the concept of synthesis, seeing all things as one
simultaneously and seeing the relations as they are seen from
the divine mind. Together, they represent a super human point
of view and indeed the last three signs Capricorn, Aquarius and
Pisces can be seen as signs of synthesis and can properly be given
rulership over the three synthesis petals of the egoic lotus.
So the big
picture begins to dawn and man's rightful place within it. In
some ways, the manu can be related to Capricorn and the departments
of the Christ, the Hierarchy, to Aquarius. But they certainly
work in the closest cooperation
G. Both are great burden carriers. Frequently we find
the Capricornian stooped with responsibility but no more so than
the Aquarian who is carrying the burden of the world in selfless
service.
