Sun or Ascendant in Capricorn with Ray 1

.

Sun Capricorn (or Ascendant Capricorn), R1P (or R1S)
Plus Constellationally Transmitted R1, R3 and R7

A strong mutual reinforcement of ray and astrological energies emerges due to the transmission of the first ray constellationally through Capricorn. The principal category of reinforcement would be Strong by Constellational Transmission. Additional reinforcements emerge planetarily through the first ray component of Saturn, a planet which is both the exoteric and esoteric ruler of Capricorn.

While in the past the author has discussed the possibility that Saturn has a first ray soul and a seventh ray personality, it is equally possible {and perhaps even more probable} that it is the personality ray of Saturn which is the first ray. Previously, the seventh ray was offered as a possible personality ray for Saturn.  Saturn does have seventh ray associations, through its rulership of the systemic and cosmic physical planes, and it does have many qualitative associations with the seventh ray, but, in many ways, the seventh and the first rays are similar, the seventh being but the more concrete reflection of the first.

The constant obstructiveness and destructiveness of Saturn on the physical plane—as experienced by people at all stages of development—speaks for the probably of a first ray personality. Further, the Tibetan, it seems gives us the soul ray, when referencing the sacred and synthesizing planets. He almost always assigns the third ray to Saturn, just as He assigns the sixth ray to Neptune and the seventh ray to Uranus—the three of them being the synthesizing planets. We know that He is speaking here of soul rays, and not monadic rays, because the monadic rays of Neptune and Uranus are the second and first respectively.

Even though the monadic ray of Saturn is the third, it seems that the Tibetan is also assigning a third ray soul to this planet. Whether, however, the soul ray of Saturn is ray one or ray three, will have to be determined later when more is known. Suffice it to say that the first ray is expressing powerfully and noticeably through Saturn. Thus, an additional type of reinforcement would be Moderate by Rulership. If, however, one considers the first ray component of Saturn to be demonstrably present, then, perhaps, the categories Strong by Rulership—Class 1 and Class 2would be justifiable.

A further reinforcement of the astro-rayological interplay comes through the exaltation of Mars. Mars, like Saturn, has a demonstrable first ray component — probably its soul ray. In terms of decanates Saturn {conveying some first ray} rules the first decanate of Capricorn {is esoteric order} and the third {in exoteric order}. Further the last decanate of Capricorn is ruled by Mercury {with strong associations to the Sun and Vulcan—active at the third initiation}. More first ray is conveyed through the Vulcan association.)

Selfish, Self-Centered or Self-Serving Human Being

Selfish, Self-centered or Self-Serving Human Being

i.   The hardness and materiality of the selfish Capricorn person combines with the tendency towards inconsiderate, harsh  or, even, cruel imposition induced within the insufficiently spiritualized personality by the first ray. (These undesirable qualities would be in the nature of a relapse or reversion to a formerly bound condition, as it is not possible to have a first or second ray personality unless one is at least an aspirant. The first or second ray may, however, enter the personality by other lines of influence.)

ii. Cold, hard, cruel, unfeeling.

iii. Crystallizing the life process.

iv.    Forcing other’s against their will; allowing no freedom, no latitude, no scope.

v. Putting others on a “Procrustean bed”. Rigid enforcement. Demanding absolute conformity.

vi.    Using law as a means of oppression.

vii.   Organization as a means of regimentation.

Energetic Contrasts Between Capricorn and R1

Utilize these contrasts to understand how these two energies may contrast or conflict with each other when they are found together within the human energy system.

Capricorn

In Comparison With

R1

1.   Transmits R1, R3 and R7 constellationally

1.   R1

2.   Transmits principally R3, and R5 through its planetary rulers

2.   R1

3.   Colors: green (given by D.K.) and possibly (on a hypothetical color-scale incrementally related to the chromatic musical scale) blue-indigo or indigo, or indigo violet. (A color-chromatic scale has fourteen steps and a musical chromatic scale only twelve—hence the discrepancies and alternatives. The shading of decanates may offer a partial solution.)

3.   Colors: red, “roaring orange”, black, (gold and white).

4.   Note: Possibly A

4.   Note: RE or D

5.   Expresses principally at the ajna center via Venus, and at the crown via R1. Further expressions may reasonably be found that the throat via R3 and Saturn, and at the base of the spine via R1 and R7. Unique expression may be found at the ‘unicorn center’ as distinct from the ajna center.

5.   Expresses through the base of the spine and the crown center

6.   Creative Hierarchy number V/X, unliberated

6.   Creative Hierarchy number I/VI, unliberated

7.   Hypothesized as especially expressive in relation to the Mineral Kingdom via Saturn and Vulcan, the Human Kingdom via Venus and Saturn, the Kingdom of Souls via Venus, and the Kingdom of Solar Lives via Sun/Vulcan (ruler of third decanate).

7.   Related to the Kingdom of Solar Lives and also the Mineral Kingdom

8.   Associated with “God the Father” and “God the Holy Spirit”

8.   Principally associated with “God the Father”

9.   Identified with the factor of Intelligence and the factor of Will

9.   Identified quite with the factor of Will—except for atma which is will and intelligence

10.   The usual perception deals with the World of Time and Space as a necessary reality—though this perception will be later overcome upon the mountaintop.

10.   In itself, the first ray is Shiva, the destroyer of Time and Space. Capricorn is more frequently burdened by Time and Space than is the first ray (in essence).

11.   Capricorn inclines towards concretion.

11.   The first ray handles the concretion of the physical plane, but is essentially, a ray of abstraction.

12.   Capricorn is much concerned with the ‘rind’ of man—his outer form, the densest aspect of his threefold nature.

12.   In essence, the first ray is ever identified with that in man which is immaterial and free—the spirit.

13.   Capricorn is closely related to system and pattern—to sustaining and imposing them.

13.   The first ray is wider and more inclusive, containing fiery dynamics which Capricorn cannot express.

14.   Demonstrates the power of law

14.   Demonstrates identification with law, but also identification with selfhood—via Aries and Leo

15.   Capricorn respects and preserves forms.

15.   In itself, the first ray is the destroyer of forms.

16.   Capricorn (through Venus, Saturn and some Vulcan associations) is strongly inclined to be a building influence

16.   The first ray (through Vulcan) may participate in building, but, essentially, it is the Destroyer and Abstractor.

17.   Capricorn has a special connection to certain members of the deva kingdom, especially the devas of the earth and its interior.

17.   Identified with the spirit aspect of the human being which, unlike the deva kingdom, progresses through the destruction of form rather than through its building.

18.   Capricorn may incline to sadness and melancholy

18.   The first ray is, essentially, the “ray of bliss” (only, however, during the final period of evolution)

Discover Potentials to be Derived from
Energetic Similarities Between Capricorn and R1

Utilize these similarities to further understand how these two energies may combine with or reinforce each other (for better of for worse) when they are found within the same energy system.

A.  Many Qualities in Common -

B.  First Ray Transmitted through Capricorn: Capricorn and the first ray are closely related as the first ray is transmitted through the constellation, Capricorn.

C. Destruction Through Crystallization: Both influences demonstrate the power to destroy through crystallization.

D. Initiating and Taking Initiation: Both energies are associated with the power to initiate and take initiation. The aspect of will associated with the first ray is the “Will-to-Initiate” (EA 605). Similarly, Capricorn, in occultism, is recognized as the “Sign of Initiation”.

E. Wielding and Overcoming Death: Both energies are wielders of death and eventually overcome death. Capricorn is said to be “The Conqueror of Death”.

F.  Karma: Capricorn is one of the foremost signs of karma. The Lord of Karma express principally upon the first ray utilizing the other rays instrumentally.

G. Political Interest: Both energies give a strong political interest, especially when their forces are united.

H. Force and Enforcement: Both influences are energies of force and enforcement.

I. Ambition, Rising: In early evolutionary day, both energies incline their types to “rise to the top”—ambition rules.

J.   Enforcing Laws and Principles: When evolution has run its course, both energies adhere to and enforce laws and principles.

K. Rapidity of Action: Both influences share the factor of purposeful rapidity  of action.

L.  Control and Regulation: Both influence exert control and regulation—over themselves and others.

M.  Holding and Persisting: Both influences share the power to hold and persist.

N. Power to Survive: The power to survive is a quality shared in common by both of these energies.

O.    “Best and Worst of Men”: Both energies are characteristic of the “black lodge”. Most adepts within this lodge are on the first ray and Capricorn produces not only the best of men but the worst.

P. Related to the First Initiation: Generically, Capricorn governs all five of the usual initiations. But it is only on the reversed zodiac that the man learns to pass with equally conscious purpose through the gate of Capricorn. Five times he has to pass through that Gate in full waking consciousness and these five happenings are frequently called the five major initiations”.    (EA 168-169)

Naturally, these five include the first initiation, to which Capricorn is additionally and specially related. “…Capricorn (December) will call attention to the first initiation, the birth of the Christ in the cave of the heart, and indicate the training needed to bring about that great spiritual event in the life of the individual man”. (EXH 422)

Additionally, since the first initiation calls for the energies of Vulcan and Pluto “—“Vulcan reaches to the very depths of his nature, whilst Pluto drags to the surface and destroys all that hinders in these lower regions—(EA 70), and since both Vulcan and Pluto are first ray planets, it is clear that the first ray as well as Capricorn is much involved in this initiation.

If one thinks carefully, one sees that not only is Capricorn involved in all five of the initiations with which the human being is most (theoretically) familiar, but that the first ray is also involved in all five. To the first ray is assigned the “Will to Initiate” (EA 605), and that will is active at each and every initiation.

Q.    Related Specifically to the Third Initiation: Both Capricorn and the first ray should be considered active at the third initiation (when monadic aspect—correlated, generically, with the first ray—is consciously accessed and is established as a new and growing keynote in the human energy system).
