7. Sun Cancer (or
Ascendant Cancer), R7P (or
R7S) (Plus Constellationally Transmitted R3 and R7) (A strong mutual reinforcement of ray and
astrological emerges due to the constellational transmission of the seventh
ray—though not in greatest strength—through Cancer. The appropriate category of
reinforcement would be, Strong by Constellational
Transmission. In various
ways the seventh ray may also be associated with the Moon, the exoteric
ruler of Cancer, and ruler of the first and third decanates {esoterically and
exoterically, respectively}. The reinforcement is further strengthened because
Jupiter, with a strong seventh ray component, on either the personality or
monadic level, is exalted in Cancer.)
(a) (Selfish, Self-centered or Self-Serving Human Being):
i.
The circumscribed life of the self-centered, self-absorbed Cancer
person combines with the unthinking
traditionalism and conventionality induced within the insufficiently spiritualized personality by the
seventh ray.
ii.
The
limited focus of Cancer combines with the rigidity of the externally focussed
seventh ray.
iii.
Tribalism.
Later, nationalism. (Both of these even more intense if combined with the sixth
ray.)
iv.
Sectarianism,
judgmentalism. Pride based upon insularity. Pride in “our ways”—no matter how
reactionary such “ways” may be.
v.
Non-progressive,
backward-looking conservatism.
vi.
Refusing
to break with tradition. Slavery to habit and custom. Fear of breaking
“taboos’.
vii.
Formalism;
judgment according to form and appearances.
viii.
Form-bound
to the lunar lords. Rotary motion. The predictable life within a small circle
holding back the development of the higher faculties.
ix.
Tribal
consciousness stifles individuality. Tribal culture ‘protects’ tribe members
from discovering themselves as individuals.
x.
The
imposition of family (Cancer) tradition (seventh ray)—again, stifling
individuality.
xi.
The
subterranean powers (seventh ray) latent in the mass-consciousness (Cancer).
Unconscious compulsions. Life is run by unconscious, unexamined patterns. “This
is done. This is not-done.
Why? We do not know.”
(b) (Advanced Human Being; Aspirant; Disciple):
i.
The power to manifest and embody characteristic of the advancing Cancer individual
combines with the power to
organize, carefully and practically, induced within
the spiritually unfolding personality by the seventh ray.
ii.
The
incarnational ability of Cancer combines with the magical, manifesting ability
of the seventh ray.
iii.
Knowing
one’s boundaries and limitations, thus wisely defining the purpose, scope and
nature of one’s work.
iv.
The
ability to construct dependable foundations for higher processes.
v.
Reliability;
being present and at home when needed, and not “somewhere else”.
vi.
The ability
to build groups and organizations.
vii.
Capacity
to create right pattern and rhythm within a whole.
viii.
On the
Path of Discipleship: the capacity to bring discipline into the personality
life, and thus regulate the functioning of the lunar vehicles.
ix.
On the
Path of Discipleship: capacity to bring right form and function to the realm of
the lunar lords, thus meeting the true needs of the lunar lords and not their
inclination for anarchic over-stimulation.
x.
On the
Path of Discipleship: taking those steps which will aid in perfecting the
personality process.
(c) (Advanced Disciple; the Initiate)[Additionally, where
relevant, combine Ascendant Sign, Cancer, with the seventh ray as the ray of
the personality or soul]
i.
The ability to embody the divine in a stable, well-integrated
form—a capacity
possessed by the soul-infused disciple/initiate born in or under the
sign Cancer, combines with a facility for
bringing the poles into constructive relationship—an ability induced within the soul or
spiritualized personality by the seventh ray.
ii.
Ability
to embody or incarnate an aspect of the Divine Plan.
iii.
Capacity
to anchor an aspect of the Ashram’s work.
iv.
Prominent
capacity to “build a lighted house”. Capacity to bring the soul into
incarnation within the three worlds.
v.
Capacity
to create a manifested “center” which is a reflection of the pattern of the
Ashram—an outpost of the Ashram on they physical plane.
vi.
The
tendency to create specialized or secret societies, which can incarnate an
aspect of the Divine Plan. Orders. Fellowships. Lodges.
vii.
A
builder of the “
viii.
Capacity
to incarnate the rituals of the
higher worlds.
ix.
Thus,
“heaven” and “earth” meet (seventh ray) in prepared physical plane centers
(Cancer).

Mantra for Cancer and the Seventh Ray
Mantram for the Disciple’s Consciousness: The
orderly expression of the part I am to play within the all-embracing whole—I
responsibly intend. With integrity, methodically, “I build a lighted house”.
Mantram for the Initiate’s Consciousness: “The Highest and
the Lowest meet”—fusing the extremes; rounding out the whole; I stand as
Heaven’s Vessel for expression of the spirit/soul upon the planes of Earth.
Proposed Symbol for
R7/Cancer: Invoking at the center of a ‘Magic Circle’ rightly drawn, the wise
‘Magician of his Life’ releases many subtle powers to benefit all lives
evolving through the worlds of form, so they may have the vehicles appropriate
to dharma, appropriate to karma—suited to their growth in right accordance with
the “Patterns of the Heavens”, as those Patterns offer transformation to the
lowly patterns of the Earth.

Energetic Similarities Between Cancer and R7
Utilize
these similarities to further understand how these two energies may combine
with or reinforce each other (for better of for worse) when they are found
within the same energy system.
A. Cancer Transmits the Seventh Ray: The energy of Cancer is closely related to the energy of the seventh ray
because Cancer transmits the seventh ray—constellationally.
B. Manifestation: Cancer
(with Capricorn) is a pre-eminent sign of manifestation, and the seven
ray is the ray of manifestation.
C. The “Matter” Aspect: Both
influences are closely related to the matter aspect of divinity—the third
aspect.
D. Building the Form: Cancer
is one of the chief builders of the form; the seventh ray, too, is a
builder of the form. Ultimately both cooperate in the fulfillment of the
mantram: “I build a lighted house and therein dwell.”
E. Traditionalism: Both
influences conduce to a love of the traditional—unless the reformative,
Uranian aspect of the seventh ray is in effect.
F. Tribalism and Sectarianism: Both influences, in early evolutionary days, tend towards tribalism
and sectarianism. There is a definite inside and outside.
They protect what is inside from what is outside.
G. Taboos—Traditional Codes of Conduct: For both influences (especially in early days) the
concept of the taboo is strong. There are things which simply are not
“done”. Reason does not apply; tradition determines the code of conduct.
H. Synthesis and Wholeness: Both energies are energies of synthesis. Cancer sees and
identifies with wholeness. The seventh ray creates an intelligent,
organized synthesis upon the physical plane.
I.
Related through the
Seventh Creative Hierarchy: Both
influences are related to the seventh manifested Creative Hierarchy—the
“Baskets of Nourishment” (a rather Cancerian name). This Creative Hierarchy is
ruled by the Moon (which is so strong in relation to Cancer). The seventh
Creative Hierarchy represent the lower form of material lives—precisely those
which are most influenced by the Cancerian energy. Because this Hierarchy is
the seventh it is naturally ruled, in part, by the seventh ray.
The Moon here (hierarchical ruler of Aquarius—the zodiacal ruler of this
seventh Hierarchy) probably veils the planet Uranus, which distributes the seventh
ray—here expressing in a very material way.
J. Fear: In relation to
both influences the factor of fear may be strong. For Cancer, it is the
fear to depart from the past and established traditions. For the seventh ray,
it is fear of deviating from established patterns of thought, behavior, etc.
Excluding the Uranian factor which expresses through the seventh ray, both
Cancer and the seventh ray can be seen as very conservative energies—the
conserve the form.
